So I just got my HD 7970 today and went ahead and installed it in my system, I went into device manager and installed the drivers from there for the display. I have restarted my system over 30 times due to random freezing and just mouse-stucking situations when I launch some programs, so I just went and installed Catalyst Omega Driver 14.12 did I need that in the beginning or what is that for? Will it solve my problems alsoo..?

With AMD you always want the latest BETA drivers. currently thats 15.3, you should also install the drivers from AMD's website the first time.

I installed 14.12 because I wanted a stable driver, or should I get 15.3 because they said people can see what there working on. But whats the difference between these drivers and the direct driver for 7970 display?

Never install Beta drivers unless you're willing to deal with that kind of headache..

With AMD you end up with not much of a choice as thats were a lot of the driver side optimizations will be.

When you go to install drivers in Task Manager, they are the generic drivers -- that's what you DON'T WANT.

I'm using the 14.12 Omega drivers for my two HD 7970's (and for a 7950 in my second system). I haven't had any driver issues with them thus far.

If the old generic drivers are still present, uninstall them first to a old any conflicts. If it asks you to restart your system after install / uninstall, DO SO.
