Intel's 4770k vs the 4790k which to use?

I want to build a PC for gaming, but I am usure which CPU is best for my build, intel's 4770k or the 4790K

CPU? I am in no rush for an answer but my i would like the best CPU for my money, and I have heard that the 4770k is faster anyway.... So I would like your opinions please! Thanks in advance!

The 4770K is slower due to it's lower clockspeed. The Core i7 4790K is a better chip because of it's higher clockspeed and it tends to overclock slightly better from what I have seen.

4790k runs cooler I believe and is a little faster than the 4770k as it is higher clocked.

If you want the best for your money, an i5 4690K would be the best for a budget.

 

However the 4790K has a superior TIM, and a higher stock speed.

I'm not sure I would say it's extremely noticeable, but it's definitely better. Get the 4790K. It will likely run cooler, will assuredly run faster and is available binned from http://siliconlottery.com.

If it is just for gaming an i5 4690k will do that perfectly fine for $100 less. It might be around 2 FPS less than the i7 4790k which is nothing. The i7 will outperform in streaming/rendering otherwise you only need the i5 4690k.

I actually haven't seen any evidence that the TIM has been improved. The better temps are more likely caused by the improvement of voltage delivery from the added capacitors.

They're basically the same cpu other than the 4790k being an improved version of the 4770k with extra capacitors.

The 4790K has a better heat spreader and more consistent overclocking results. If you're looking to save a buck on Z87 boards (I think they're a bit cheaper but im not sure), then opt for the 4770K. If you want to overclock, get the 4790K. Just keep in mind that the 4790K will not work on Z87 board. And no, the 4790K is faster than the 4770K - single core performance is significantly better in the 4790K.

the 4790k do work in z87, just update the bios for the cpu

4790k is more consistent with overclocking
