Since it will be free for people with Windows 7, could you use windows 10 on another device?

 

You wont get a new licence key, you have to upgrade the existing PC to windows 10

So if I have a hard disk failure more than a year after the upgrade, do I have to go back to Windows 7?

i think not. they probably just update your activation code to W10
