Beginners DSLR?

So I want to get into Photography but dont know much about cameras. I do want a DSLR but I dont know what the specs mean really. I have 300 to spend but can expand. I am willing to by old/used hardware. Do I need extra lenses?

Fedex Ground must be on Horse back, It took 7 days to go 200 miles

Ideally you want extra lenses $300 isnt much to work with to be honest since when you buy a body it doesn't have a lens you can get them with kit lenses but it makes it several hundred dollars more.

Edit Ya I just looked it up Nikons lowest end camera new starts at 450 USD. Thats with no lens.

Have a look at Pentax, The K-x is an ideal beginners camera and they go for about $300 used. As long as it hasn't got a scratched lens and has been taken care of then that'll do the job nicely.

Really though, For $300 brand new you really are looking at point and shoots.

like dadasmithywinkle said, buy a used nikon d3100 3200 or 3300. That's what i started with and I didn't regret it.

If it doesn't come with a lens a good starting lens in mine, and many others opinion would be a 35mm prime.

Like others have said, I'd recommend getting an entry level Nikon DSLR such as the Nikon D3200/D3300, you could get one used if you want to save a bit of money, or buy one new. For now the included kit lens should suffice, but in the future you could look into getting a 35mm/50mm prime lens.
