 Hello!

I've recently built my brand new budget gaming rig! Unfortunately, i've come across a slight problem. As of yesterday i have been experiencing periodic system shutdowns for no apparent reason, even when i'm idling. after my very first occurrence with this, a message appeared on the boot up screen that read; CMOS FAIL. I know that the CMOS is the nickel sized battery placed on the mobo, but could it really be causing the shutdowns? i know for a fact that the message definitely wasn't there before.

I also know that these shutdowns aren't temperature related, i've been checking the temps with HWmonitor and i'm running at a cool 17 Celsius when idle. i cant really think what else it could be. A faulty PSU maybe?

Any ideas?

SPECS:

 AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor              (6 CPUs), ~3.5GHz

4 x 2 GSKILL DDR3 RAM

Biostar TA970 Motherboard

GeForce GTX 750 Ti SC

1TB HDD 7200 RPM Western Digital

500W EVGA PSU

Thank you!

the cmos battery may not have been seated correctly, reset it, that may get it work.

recheck all power connections

make sure all are seated in fully

esp the 24 pin mobo plug

the mobo might be in storage so the battery might have run down

go to the drug store to get a new battery

it should be a CR3225 but you can verify by taking out the battery

So i just re installed the CMOS and i also read somewhere that resetting back to defaults in the bios also helped someone so i went ahead and did that.  It seems to be working! but ill leave it idling for another hour or so and see if she stays awake. Thank you. iill be sure to post if it shuts down again.
