Hi!

I'm soon looking to upgrade my CPU in my current setup, specs are:

AMD FX-4350

Gigabyte 990XA-UD3

R9 280 3GB

16GB Corsair DDR3 1600mhz

480gb Kingston SSD

The options I was looking at was upgrading to the AMD 8350, costing me around £130 here in the UK (around 195$) or upgrading motherboard to a Z97 and CPU to the i5-4690k costing me around £330 (around $492) as I would be buying a new copy of Windows as I currently own an OEM copy (most of my research online found a fresh install would be the best thing after upgrading motherboard).

I'm using my setup mostly for playing new games releases etc. and my next upgrade would most likely be to the GTX 970.

Any help towards which would be the best option for my usage and further upgrade paths would be great!

Thanks :)

Upgrading to a 8320e and 970 would be a very cost efficient option. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970wf3oc4gd

I'd recommend just the 8320. Your R9 280 is pretty okay.

Thanks for the replies! I think I'll definitely go for the 8320. Am I likely to see any increase in performance with my current GPU from the 4350?

Possibly depending on the games you're playing.

Cool, thank you :) I'll be sure to pick up an after market cooler too, either the Coolermaster evo 212 or the Noctua U14s :)

The Pure Rock is a good value if you're looking for a '212 Evo-tier' cooler: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/be-quiet-cpu-cooler-bk009
