My good, old headphones are now officially dead. RIP :(

So what do you suggest for new headphones for gaming and music? I already got one suggestion, which is Astro A40. What do you think about this one?

A good price would be 100-150€, and they should include a mic.

Thanks for answering :)

hyperx cloud 2 although you're still better off getting a pair of headphones and slapping a modmic on it.

For that price range, pretty much the only thing you will get recommended is the HyperX cloud/Cloud II. Especially since you want an integrated mic. That being said, it is a very good headset, as long as you don't use the stupid virtual 7.1 USB adapter thing that comes with the Cloud II.

I actually think the A40 sounds wonderful, but their level of comfort is even better than the sound. The ear cups are large and deep, and the foam/fabric pads aren't hot when wearing them for extended periods. And no one has ever complained (fellow gamers) about mic quality in the 1+ years they've been used. They've been used on consoles and Windows. Some times you can find them in an IGN Deals email at a reduced price.

I'll try on that Cloud headset when i get to a store, thanks.

Do you think they are still good without the MixAmp? That costs like extra 100€ so not a big fan..

Yes. The maxamp is only necessary if you have a Dolby soundcard and want to use virtual surround.  The mixamp also works natively with all the consoles. (But it's not necessary if you want to use the headset with consoles.)

So I cant even use virtual surround with an integrated sound card?

I think you should go with the Headphone+Modmic solution. I can assure you it won't disappoint you. Audiotechnica ATH-M50 should do it.

Is the sound quality good, because my friend told me that the modmic gives out a bit robotic, buzzy voice.

Linus did a video on the Modmic a while ago, and from the mictest, it sounded pretty good. From all the good press it gets, it can't be too bad. Your friend probably got a bad one, or dropped it at some point, or something like that. Honestly, no headsets can really hold a candle to the headphone+Modmic/external mic combo once you get past about $100 (due to the cost associated with the mic at anything much below that)
