Hello, I've attempted to create a Windows 8.1 boot drive from an 8gb flash drive using Microsoft's media creation tool. However, the tool indicated that there was an error in the creation of the boot drive and now the usb drive appears to be write protected. It's essentially useless to me. I've attempted to remove the protection using commands as well as editing the registry, all to no avail. Has anyone experienced this before, if so, any solutions?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Macs don't support NTFS, only Fat32, had to find that out the hard way.

well, this website has loads of possible fixes for you

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-fix-write-protection-errors-on-a-usb-stick/

and I recommend getting either rufus 2.0 or winsetupfromusb. both work well making usb sticks into bootable devices.

use DISKPART in elevated command prompt. Select the flash drive. Use

Attributes disk clear readonly

if this and a couple of other methods don't work, it may have bad flash memory, and sometimes that does weird things like write protection.

If no body replies to this topic, head over to Tom's Hardware where people actually know what they're doing...

People are pretty ignorant there.

OCN is where it's at. They are dicks, but you'll learn from them.

And the advantage of LTT is more noob-friendly and instant replies to your topic.

Macs don't support NTFS, only Fat32, had to find that out the hard way.

Most, almost all stock, straight out of the store USB drives are fat32. and there is rarely a reason to turn them into NTFS.

The fuck is that supposed to mean...?

Take it with pride, we all know it's partially true.

Eh

Toms Hardware is a joke as far as I'm concerned

Had an account there, and there is a reason I switched to LTT.

They are the most frequent site I'm taken to when it comes to solutions to alot of peoples problems here.

Problem is, I've tried all those solutions. I was especially surprised by the fact that the diskpart cmd didn't resolve the issue even though it said it was successful.

you tried the cmd in safe mode too? seems odd i guess its just corrupted
