Norton is bloated and causes issues with way too many programs (plus it's incredibly intrusive).

It has a history of being like a weed and hard to remove with lots of bloat.

What kind of bloat?

I've NEVER had an issue with Norton products

First of all, it uses scare tactics to get people to pay more by making false positives, saying your computer is infected when its not, and a bunch of other shit

It also is not well optimised at scanning, and causes system lag while scanning system files

And finally, its not as good as other antiviruses because its database is not updated as regularly as others, which means your PC can get a virus easily when a vulnerability is not patched quickly enough

In my experiences with it, it has slowed down computers quite a bit, and also has let multiple viruses through.

Why does everyone here hate Norton and their products?

Uses way too many cpu draw calls effectively slowing down your pc a lot, think of it as going into battle with 50kg armor of pure metal.

The problem with Norton is that its 2015, anti-malware is the king of the hill now as they are a lot less in your face but they filter out stuff which actually matters like PUPs and well malware.

Free anti-virus software the likes of Security essentials is just as effective as Norton but its free and the performance hit is way less.

Then there is the incompatibly with some programs, Mcafee, Norton and Sophos are the worst for this, they just dont like you installing some programs or games and as they are very closed minded old fashioned programs you cant do much about that. Mcafee and Norton are also a complete mess to uninstall completely.

Paying for anti-virus software is pointless now.

It knows what website you visit

It know all of the files in your computer

Pop ups appear every hour mid game

It doesn't even block a lot of viruses

probably because they convinced you to pay for it

just wait til it expires and you will get a ton of "your computer is infected!" and "WARNING NOT PROTECTED" and other shit to get you to pay for another year

I've never had Norton find/warn me of any trojans/problems

exactly, because it sucks at detecting viruses and trojans

its database of known threats is way smaller than other antiviruses, and it gets updated rarely which means new viruses will not get detected at all

btw malwarebyes and an antivirus are two very different things

if its not running it cant give popups because the process is not running

but having it off makes it useless since it wont detect anything

Because you have to be a moron to get a virus/malware

Now try using something that isn't incredibly bloated....like AVG and watch your performance soar.

well that just means you didnt download any viruses yet, which is good

the problem is that norton has failed to detect viruses that other antiviruses HAVE detected in the past

so even though you have an "antivirus" you can still get a virus that norton wont detect at all

and there are a lot of tests done comparing norton to other antiviruses and it misses a ton of stuff that others dont

you can just google "norton fail to detect viruses" and you can see several it didnt detect

this is because of how slow they are at updating their database with new viruses

also another issue with norton is that it uses system resources such as CPU and RAM that it doesnt need to be using at idle
