I'm scared please help.

Go to solution Solved by SkilledRebuilds,

Go back to basics...

Remove it all but the bare essentials and try to boot.

You could VERY well have given it a small electrostatic discharge.

People will say they've done it and no issue.. but electrostatic discharge isn't universally going to happen EVERY time, but can totally do it regardless.

Okay so I stuck in some old ram over clocked it to 1600mhz and was fooling around with my fans.

My computer was still on while I was changing my radiator fans (yes I know it should be off) and I accidentally touched a motherboard heatsink.

Now my computer won't turn on and I tried disconnecting my power and turning it back on. It just shut off on its own.

Could this be the dreaded shock of death? Did I electro static destroy it?

Please tell me I didn't :'(

Does it turn on at all or is it just completely dead?

What did you touch it with?

Wait, heatsink is for cooling right? I think it doesn't have any relation with power.

It was the last thing I did before it shut off. About 30 seconds previous to it I plugged in a fan again as I realised it hadn't been plugged in all this time.

No but it could conduct static electricity.

Maybe try swapping the RAM out again (the RAM might have failed) but basically what SkilledRebuilds said ^

So keep ram and CPU basically?

Pretty much, narrow it down as you would with normal troubleshooting methods.

CPU/RAM only, testing each ram stick individually and all that non-fun stuff.

:/

You might have burned out the RAM with the overclock, so swap back in the other RAM you were using before?

Hmm, I think you're right.

Although I'm not sure that's the reason. It's theoretically possible but it might be the overclock?

If so, TD - take out the Cmos battery, better yet if possible find the CMOS Reset pins if you have them...and try that first so you don't have to take everything apart, if not done already.

I think my GPU is dead..

Could my GPU prevent my entire computer from booting?

It boots fine with everything else besides the GPU..

If you can't see the display then it probably is (not 100% sure because it's not always the GPU), try removing the GPU and boot.

Maybe you should let it rest, just keep calm. Maybe you use your laptop / other computer for now.
