Pentium + 280x

Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

so i5 3570k or i5 3570? I kinda want to overclock in the future, and its only $25 more... but then i'll need more than a stock cooler right?

Your board can't overclock in the first place so just go for 3470.

Right now I have a crazy bottleneck with my Pentium on my 280x, and I've been looking at some LGA1155 i3s and i5s. Any suggestions for around $200?

save yourself a bit of cash, nab an i5 4450 3570. It won't bottleneck that 280X as much, and is by far and wide greatly superior to the Pentium.

Honestly, except in the most ludicrous of situations where the buyer has absolutely no more cash, you should never pair a g32 with anything more than a 760 or 270X. Anything higher and it's much better to spend that cash towards a better cpu, rather a better gpu, as the pentium is so just, bad at doing anything but gaming on games with very poor multi-core configurations. It dies when running a game simultaneously as pretty much anything else, including have 10 tabs or so on chrome, or god forbid streaming music while you do that. I've got one in my media pc connected to my tv, but I only use that for the rare chance to play some games, but more so just to stream movies from online, it does a good job with that, but god forbid i actually play a game while its streaming music from youtube, when ever i do i get a 20% fps drop.

4450 doesn't exist, and if OP gets a Haswell chip they'll have to upgrade mobo too... which is why they're asking for an 1155 chip

^ This, if you're looking to buy new, otherwise there's a few of them on eBay

4440*, just woke up.

Still, Haswell isn't exactly a reasonable suggestion because OP already has a 1155 board, and you're really not going to notice the performance difference between Ivy and Haswell i5 with a 280X.

Yea already edited it. Hangover and a late night isn't the best way to wake up at noon.

Yeah, you'll need a decent CPU cooler which will be at least $20-30 more. So you're looking at spending at least 50 extra dollars.

I would say stick with the 3470. That's more than enough for a 280X and you'll see a big leap in performance. Your board also can't OC very well or OC if that

well the 3470 gets to 3.6GHz while the 3570 gets up to 3.8... is it worth the extra money for the small difference?

Nope. You won't notice the difference.

5.5% faster...what cost difference are you looking at?

more than 10%? is so it's not worth it.

The i5-3570 won't bottleneck a 280x at all except in straight single core games like Crysis 1, Total War Attila, stuff like that (and any CPU would bottleneck then).
