X99 Build - Mid-High Range MicroATX

vano411

Hey peeps. Just wanting to show off my new build. I haven't put a computer together in a very long time (since 2007). I was using an old Core 2 Quad build up until this which I knew needed an update. Ended up putting something all-new together from scratch.

Case: Corsair Obsidian 350D
PSU: Corsair AX760i 760 Watt Digital PSU
CPU: Intel Core i7-5820k (@ 4.5 GHz / 1.3v)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H110 + 2x Noctua NF-A14 IndustrialPPC 2000RPM fans in push config
Motherboard: eVGA X99 Micro
Memory: 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400
GPU: eVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC
Storage: 2x Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD's (RAID0 Configuration)
Case Fans: 2x Corsair SP140 Intake | Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition Rear Exhaust

Temperature averages in a 71 degree room:

CPU @ 4.5 GHz / 1.3v
Idle: 24 C
Load (AIDA64): 56-58 C
Load (Prime95 SmallFFT): 72-74 C

GPU Idle: 35 C
GPU Load (FurMark): 76 C
GPU Load (FurMark @ 1330 MHz): 78-79 C

Firestrike:
11522
The GPU was overclocked to 1290 MHz during this test. At stock speeds, the score averages at ~10.5k

Future Plans

Will be getting a new monitor soon. Very likely to be 27" 1440p. If the GTX 970 has problems running it, I'll pick up a second one for SLI.

I eventually want to have a custom watercooling setup to keep things even cooler and quieter for more stable overclocking. I've actually never done that before but I've been doing a lot of research. Here's what I have planned as far as that's concerned. Any advice here is welcome:

Radiator: XSPC EX280 280mm (mounted at the top w/ the Noctua fans in push config)
CPU Block: XSPC Raystorm
GPU Block(s): EK FC970 GTX ACX Acetal+Nickel | EK FC970 GTX ACX Backplate
Reservoir/Pump: XSPC Photon 170 + D5 Vario Pump
Fittings: XSPC Black Chrome Compression Fittings (G1/4" | 1/2" ID | 3/4" OD)

Let me know what you guys think.  :)

Onto the photoshoot!

*NOTE: The sound card (ASUS Xonar Essence STX) has been removed. Cable management near the PSU is much better with it gone.

The H110 fits in the case with no modification but put it in BEFORE you mount the motherboard.

Do it! :)

Yup. I used to be a full tower guy but smaller sized and powerful PC's have grown on me. I took this to a LAN party recently and it was super easy to transport and setup. Everyone else had enormous full towers. This tiny computer blew the case covers off all of them in terms of performance too. They all gave me nasty looks. Haha.

I'm in love with the Corsair 350D Case and Bitfenix Pandora MicroATX cases but I just cant seem to find use in M-ATX

There will be features and connectors you'll lose (less SATA ports, NICs, USB ports, SLI/CrossFire is pretty limited, watercooling is limited, etc.) and they tend to be slightly louder for obvious reasons. It depends on how important the small form factor is to you and what you're willing to trade for it.

Oh man i LOVE the x99 micro.

Most beautiful board i think i've ever seen

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

Gents - I do need some advice with regard to custom water loops. I've never done it before. Here is an updated parts list:

CPU Block: EK Supremacy EVO
Radiators: 2x Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 (240mm x 30mm)
Fans: 4x Corsair SP120 Quiet Edition
GPU Block: EK FC970 ACX + EK Backplate
Pump/Reservoir: EK D5 Vario XRES 140
Fittings: EK Black Compression Fittings (3/8" x 1/2")
Tubing: Primoflex Onyx Black PVC Soft Tubing

I plan on having one radiator on top and one up front in the 350D. The SP120's will be in pull configuration out front and push config up top. It will draw in air from the front through the rad and exhaust it out of the top, through the 2nd rad.

I want to mount the reservoir/pump where the drive cage usually sits (bottom right).

- Is a single water loop for both the CPU and GPU a good idea?
- If later on down the line I purchase a second video card, would it be okay to add it to this loop or do you think a change will be needed for it to keep up?
