Official MSI GTX 780 Lightning Thread (Pictures/Released Info)

AustinTheIntern

I am very disappointed about the looks. I hope those are fakes. The 770 Lightning looks so many times better.

Three fans though.

Why so much hype about a gpu cooler? because let's be honest, that's actualy what's all about

It's not just the cooler. The 780 lightning has a complete custom PCB and cherry picked GPUs. I, personally am so stoked about it because, as I am a photographer / Photoshop artist, I can't go for SLI 770s.

Me too. wasn't a huge fan at all... would rather have all the fans look the same - like windforce or something

Well not necessarily wasting. You do get a very high end card, however the cooler should have been better designed.

I just have this feeling that the developers of this card intended it to be used with water cooling. It only makes sense. I agree with you, maybe "wasting" was a little harsh. But you have the reference 780, Gaming, and lightning. The first 2 sure, go with the stock fan solution. but people will be paying a very premium price for the lightning edition.

IMO people should water cool it and push this card to its MAX. Its got everything you need to over clock it to crazy levels. The card was built to break records so i ask the question, what records are they breaking with a fan based heating solution? This type of card is made for liquid. The average joe that wants a 780 is better off buying a gaming edition or a stock 780. Buying a lightning and keeping the fans on it wont be worth the money i honestly believe.

How much is this card going to sell for you think?

Watercooling is planned for my rig, but I want to wait for some good blocks for the 780 lightning. Because of the custom PCB, reference Titan an 780 blocks won't fit.

It's just a stock 780 PCB with a Swiftech block on it. Besides, my rig is black/yellow themed with a MSI MPower Max.

thats kool just thought id throw it out there. I diidnt realize it was a swiftech block, thanks for the pointer! now its for surely on my "things to buy " list :).

I personally abandoned the MPower + Lightning idea and bought other stuff instead. Build log here:

I think there is some confusion going on throughout the internet because of this:

I have always hated this. I always put day, month and then year. But I guess American's like to be awkward. :D
