Does your PSU not have the necessary cables?

Are you sure your PSU is powerful enough for that card?

If its a quality PSU, it should be fine to use the converter

something like that : http://www.egprices.com/en/product/seasonic-eco-600w-psu-el-madina

or http://www.egprices.com/en/product/seasonic-s12ii-bronze-520w-80-plus-certified-psu-el-nekhely-technology

both have 1x 6-pin + 1x 8-pin and the another one has 1x 6-pin and 1x 6+2-pin .

also i dunno the correct required wattage for my gpu

Usually it's quite alright to use them. I have in the past and that's why the GPUs come with them as not all PSUs have an 8pin connector. What PSU are you using? I'd only be weary if it's a cheap model.

i didn't buy one yet but my budget is kinda low ... and its good for these

What CPU are you using in addition to the 280x?

You should definitely be fine with a 600W PSU though. Seasonic, CM, Corsair, Antec etc would all be quality enough and you can use the convertor if the specific PSU model doesn't have the 8pin available.

core i5 4440 or fx 6300 .. just tell me the both cases,

so both of these psus are fine ? i can use the convertor without any issues?!

You are right it does not have 30A. You may run into problems but it may still power... I'd purchase a non eco version, the 520W version you posted, or any overall better PSU that can handle these things. Don't gimp out on the PSU the last thing you want is it frying your entire system. Also, if you have plans to OC the CPU or GPU or add another 280X in Crossfire down the road I'd pick up a better PSU as well. I know your budget is limited but it's worth considering.

actually thats why i was asking and asking again.. u dude was about to lead me to make a great mistake and fry the whole system .. also ye i will get xfx 550w or evga 600b .. i have no chocies.. i have to increase the budget ..

It has 2 rails each rated at up to 24A. Combined wattage of the +12V rails is 552W so I don't see any problem with the Amps. 30A on the +12v means 30*12 = 360W. Correct me if I'm wrong.

check the card reviews.. everybody said it needs single +12v rails more than 30A

That the card needs 30A on the +12v rail just means it needs 30A*12v=360W, so 360W on the +12v rail. Some of the reviews I've seen state that the 280X doesn't pull more than 300W.

Anyway, the S12II 520W can do 408W on the +12v rails, which is the bare minimum your system needs, and the SeaSonic ECO 600W can do 552W, which is plenty. Keep in mind that they both have 2 rails, so you cannot add up the amps at which they are rated, you have to check the total combined wattage of the +12v rails.

The thing with these PSUs is that they don't have 2 x 8-pin pcie connectors so you'd have to use like 2 molex to 8-pin or 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, and I have no experience with them so I don't know if there are any downsides of using such adapters. Some people say there are. I prefer to buy a PSU that has all the connectors I need without any additional adapters.

This is BS. The R9-280X ALONE does not pull 360W or 300W.

I have two HD 7970's (AKA R9-280X) -- one being a Vapor-X and the other a Dual-X card.

30A on the +12v rail is for the ENTIRE system, but this will varying depending on the rest of your system's specs.

These readings are taken from the WALL socket. My power supply is an 80 PLUS Bronze unit, so it's about 85% efficient.

The SeaSonic ECO 600W has two +12v rails, but from the information I can gather online, it really is just a single +12v rail internally.

Regardless, even if it IS two +12v rails, the load would be evenly distributed (i.e. 24-pin and SATA on one rail, CPU + GPU on the other).

Additionally, the SeaSonic ECO has two PCI-E 6+2 pin power connectors; this will be perfectly fine for a single R9-280X.
