i would get an i3 4160/4150

Which cpu is better for sony vegas video editing, Intel Pentium G3258 or a cheap Intel i3?

For a rendering machine, you are going to want an FX processor with that small of a budget.  Either an FX6 or FX8.

Video editing comes down to CPU performance.  Technically the G3258 will probably get you better single threaded performance if you are able to overclock it a ton.  However that will require adequate cooling. 

 

On the other hand, i3 will be great for encoding but look into if Vegas supports Quicksync for encoding.   Last I checked it doesn't.. but it would help.
