Hey there folks i just logged in with my Steam account to ask some questions i couldnt dig up anywhere because they are super specific!

As you probably haven't guessed by the title, Im doing my first build. To be precise a Prodigy build.

As the minute i saw that case i fell in love with the interior and exterior design.

So i embarked on a massive quest, searching far and wide on the immortal plain known as the internet to find my parts.

Since i'm on a tight budget as i am a rather poor fellow i came up with this.

Case: Bitfenix Prodigy

Motherboard: ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+

CPU: AMD x4 860k

GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 750 Ti 2gb

PSU: HALE82 v2 550W NZXT*

RAM: Kingston Fury White 8gb DDR3-1600 CL10 kit (2x4)

*It used to be the corsair CX430M but ill explain why im probably going with the HALE later

Now when i had added all this loot to my wheelbarrow and was about to press the Deliver said loot to your castle button.

I felt that my loot wasnt quite glamarous enough understanding the full consequences of me pimping my ride i looked up ancient forums.

Which contained information on LEDS, painting your gpu, and different colors with blue LEDS.

Since i love myself some aesthetics i settled for this extra list of stuff

A windowed side panel for my prodigy

2x 120mm blue led strips from bitfenix alchemy

heat resistant spray paint for my gpu's shell

Enermax ETS-T40-W

Then a few days after this i saw that bitfenix also has sleeved cables

So i thought well let's go with a Modular PSU then and make it white to go even better with the whole build

And know i am hopelessly stuck as to choose the best color for the cables as i dont know how blue would look and i dont want to overkill it with too much white so here i am wondering which color of sleeved cables i want (ps. i have a HDD laying around so its not missing)

If you have any suggestions or advice on the total build then please, do tell!

Don't build your first PC in a Prodigy. I did that and actually cried in frustration. Do not do it. Go at least a standard mATX case to make things as easy as possible for your first time around.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Are the cables actual replacement cables, or are they extension cables? I know that there are a couple of companies that will actually make bespoke cables with custom sleeving if you'd like. You could get something that has a couple white and a couple blue sleeves, and that might be something you want to look into!

http://pexonpcs.co.uk/collections/all/psu-cables

They do completely bespoke cables, and you can email to get specific lengths, so the cabling would fit better in your case.

I've had a pretty deep look into the prodigy (when it first came out) and it looked pretty easy to build in, contrary to what STRMfrmXMN said. Although I cannot claim to have built in one before, I am going to be doing one for a friend within the next month.

Also, be sure to follow your posts if you want notifications from people that haven't quoted you! (at least, that's the only way I know of to be notified...)

The Bitfenix cables are extensions. Meaning that you will have to add them onto the existing PSU cables and you'll be left with a LOT of cable in a tiny case. You can do what I did and grab an RM650 (although you could get away with a 550 easily) and buy the Corsair cable kit. It is a bit expensive though, and honestly I don't think you should be spending that kind of money on a budget build.

Bitfenix also do some of their own PSUs which come with pre-braided cables. Granted they are black, but they are semi-modular and the cables look really nice. Fan colouring is not that difficult. Do you have a reference style cooler?

This is my Phenom (same internals as the Prodigy) build:

655vT2N.jpg

Personally, I wouldn't get blue lighting. It'll just wash everything out and make it all look blue, rather than a carefully picked out black & blue colour scheme. Which colour case are you getting anyway? Black, blue or maybe white? Either way, I'd say get white LEDs and then a nice black and blue colour scheme. The reason we see colours is because of the reflection of light. When the white LED light reflects on your blue components, it will enhance their colour, while blue LEDs would just make it look... well, everything blue.

I am going for exactly the kind of frozen dark blue internal.

While the outside is arctic white

does that gpu also come in affordable cause that's my favorite taste

The whole sentence is a reference to one of my favourite youtubers, fitzthistlewits who mentioned in his tomb raider review "www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dho-FCabHsw" that he liked them going with a retro feel, similair to how they did with windwaker, at which he remarks "Link is a little babby boy, so he has a little babby graphics."

You WILL hate it, I promise. I had the same feeling before I started building in mine.

Anyways, you need a non-modular PSU for all to work BTW

It's an EVGA GTX 760 SC with EVGA cooler. Custom painted by myself as the original is simply black (or well, dark grey). This is mine. Be weary of EVGA cards though, many of them refuse to let the fans spin below 40% even in idle (even though the card idles at 28 C) which is loud. Too loud for me if I'm honest. Some seem to be fixed with vbios updates, but this means you have to flash your card and thereby lose your warranty.

Personally, if I had the choice again, I'd go with MSI or Asus, preferably the Strix if you can afford it.

The guy who helped me by checking my list and giving advice said that the pokemon/GPU i chose was really OP when it comes to getting alot out of your money and that it was actually quiet then again i have no other sources who confirm nor deny this

Generally 750 Ti cards should be really quiet yes, because they have very low power draw and therefore little heat output. EVGA somehow really messed up with the minimum fanspeed though. Not sure if that counts for the specific card you've chosen but I can tell you I'm not making the same mistake again.

That said, you might be able to find an R9 270x for the same price which is quite a fair bit faster (nearly 760 speed), but it does output a little more heat. Shouldn't be a problem though.

@Rendord,

One can purchase sleeved cables for CXM series psu, http://www.corsair.com/en-ca/power-supply-units/psu-accessories?accseries=AXi%2c%20CXM%2c%20HX%2c%20TXM|AX%2c%20AXi%2c%20CSM%2c%20CXM%2c%20HX%2c%20HXi%2c%20RM%2c%20TXM. IMO the CX-430M is a better psu than the Hale82 V2 550W.

A memory kit with better timings would be nice. Kingston Fury White Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory is often the same or close to the same price as the kit mentioned in the OP.

It appears that you value appearance over performance.

@brob

I was going for the CX430M, BUTT, once i was going for a good looking build i do indeed go for ALL the aesthetics maybe i could buy a aluminium plate and stick it aside from the psu cage

Also the CX430M, is semi modular so that sexy looking sleeved 24 pin atx connector wont be so sexy

And is their really a difference between 1600 and 1866?

and yes i am a casual gamer so performance isnt my walhalla so to speak but some things you say make sense and i myself was still not completely sure about my psu choice and you might have rocked my boat to the CX430M

I seek in computers what i seek in my woman, when i look at her i want to be satisfied already and if she can perform hard work that's an added benefit JK that would be extremely sexist xD

There is a difference (as much because of the sub-timings as the speed), but you will likely not notice it. But if the price is the same or very close to the same, it makes sense to get the better performing part. Their looks are identical.

yeah i figured, here in Holland the better performing one is actually slightly cheaper xD
