Could use some input!

Mercay

Hello everyone!

I'm going to be putting together a new computer in the near future and could use some input on the parts.

This is what I've come up with so far:

Case: Define R5

CPU: i7-4790k

CPU cooler: H100i GTX

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Ranger

RAM: HyperX Savage DDR3 2400Mhz

GPU: Asus GTX 980 Strix

PSU: Corsair AX760

SSD: HyperX 3K 240gb

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3tb

Right so my main points of concern are:

- is the RAM decent? Would you recommend something else?

- I plan to add another 980 at some point, will the 760 watt PSU be able to handle 2 decently overclocked 980s or do I need more power?

- Any suggestions regarding the storage? I know i want a 250ish gb SSD and a 3tb ish HDD, but brand and model I dont really know one from the other.

Any other suggestions are of course very welcome!

Thanks a bunch

The RAM is an excellent choice, also you don't necessarily need an i7.

I'd go for a 1000w PSU to be safe, means you can reuse the PSU on a future build too. My personal preference would be a Samsung SSD (Evo 850 are popular now). The 2400Mhz RAM seems a little overkill, if you can save a few bucks get 2000Mhz or 1800Mhz. The rest seems fine to me :)

Alright thank you very much for the fast responses!

About the PSU, would the corsair ax860 be fine? Or do I really need 1000?

Should be fine, but look at pricing - might as well get the 1000w if it's not much more

Very good, and you'll easily be able to run 2 980s on that PSU

CPU: i5-4690k GPU: 280x Toxic PSU: Coolermaster V750 Motherboard: Z97X-SOC RAM: Ripjaws 1x8 1600mhz Case: Corsair 750D HDD: WD Blue 1TB

Get some regular 1600 MHz ram, it doesn't really affect gaming performance.

Oh shoot! Was that offensive! (I don't care).

No way to really know about the memory without a part number. There are five DDR3-2400 Kingston Savage kits. DDR3-1600 CL 9 or DDR3-1866 CL 10 would be just as good for most applications.

750W is more than enough for two GTX 980 in this build. You may want to see if you can get an EVGA 220-G2-0750-XR or 220-G2-0850-XR psu. They are usually much better priced and equal or better quality to the AX series.

The Samsung 850 EVO ssd is excellent. As are the Crucial BX-100 and MX-200. But with few exceptions any ssd will do. The hdd is a good choice.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
