Hey ya'll,

I'm working on resurrecting some older systems and two of them are mPGA478-B sockets. One the heatsink fan is totally kaput, and IDK yet what condition the other is in. Either way, I want to replace them with better heatsinks, hopefully with fans larger than the stock 60mm. Problem is that I can't seem to find many option for better than stock 478 heatsinks. Does any know the distances between the screw holes for the backplate on a Socket 775, or can someone measure and tell me? I can't seem to find it through the usual Google-ing and I want to see if I can get a 775 heatsink to fit.

the 775 cooler is slightly larger than the 478 socket fittings

but there are mods to shrink the clips to fit the 478 socket holes

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

So, what you're saying is that the mounting holes themselves do line up, the issue is that the push-clips are a little too large in diameter to fit through the holes?

Do you have any links? I've tried Google'ing a lot of different terms and the one success story I've found the guy said that he didn't make a guide.

Here is the forum thread.

And here is the YouTube video I found. (I set the HL to where he actually starts talking about it.)

I commented on his video and he replied saying that he didn't document a "how-to".

might need to ask him again on how it done

my method is similar to how Luke/Slick did in the cooler test

cut and zip ties
