so yesterday and today while watching netflix my computer just shut off and required me to switch off my power supply before it would come back on.

the first time I thought I might have jostled a loose power cable or something and made sure all of my connections were tight and good but it happened again today.

play by play,

watching netflix, monitor goes out, case lights go off but my phone and aio light stay on. power button and reset button do nothing, flip psu switch for 10 seconds, then the computer boots normal and I don't have another problem. and my crosshair v formula z does not have any new error reports in the monitor file, and there are no crash dumps.

Spoiler

Nothing in Windows Event Viewer?

check the power requirements for your setup under load. Then check the actual power delivery for your PSU ( the pull from the wall which is what your PSU actually tells you) multiplied by it's efficiency. there's a bunch of diagnostic tools to tell you your power draw, and check sites like johnnyguru for your efficency.

An FX 9590 and two 7870s are a pretty hefty load for a PSU with a single +12V rail that only supplies 60A. Considering you have to manually flip the PSU switch every time it might be worth the time to pull one of the 7870s out and run the system for a bit, see if it trips again.

It's possible your system draws enough current to actually trip the breaker in the PSU. That would be impressive.

well the extreme psu calculator says at peak load my system should only draw 600 to 650 watts and this has only ever happened with running just netflix so basically idle. and my second 7870 goes into zero power state when not in use so it is basically off.

under peak load my system should only draw 600 to 650 watts, my psu can handle 720 watts on the 12 volt rail alone. and it still passes the psu test on occt.

Well then. If it only happens when using Netflix maybe it's as simple as power settings. My laptop treats Netflix as a low power state and will eventually go into sleep mode. Maybe your settings are doing something similar?

you know it does do that from time to time, I will look into that. thanks I feel dumb for not thinking of that.
