Quick rundown of my setup.

HDMI to my monitor and AUX cable from the monitor to Line In of my Maximus VI Formula.

I then listen to the device via my headset so when I do game with my friends on Xbox, we can Skype and I can use my PC headset and mic.

When I listen to it, you can always hear some static. With the headset plugged directly into the monitor there is no static. So I have eliminated that being an issue. I have no idea where I got the cable but it's like a cheap one from a dollar store.

Could it be the cable causing the static? Or is it possible it's the Line In? Also, I have tried the other 2 line inputs with the same results.

If it is the cable, could I get a recommendation on a cable to keep this from being a thing? I'm okay with spending some $ as long as it's reasonable. I don't want to spend $50 for a 6ft cable from Monster.

I've always had some form of static when Line In is enabled, dunno if it's because I have the same issue as you or if that's just normal.

It's the input on your motherboard thats getting EMI

You need to buy a sound card to fix that.

I bought a cheap xonar DG and it fixed the problem completely

So does the Maximus VI Formula not have EMI shielding like they promote? If not, it looks like I'll be ordering the Xonar Phoebus ROG today if that would fix my issue.

it does, but thats for audio output

it seems like a lot of motherboards are advertising very good audio but they overlook inputs

my sabertooth also had a lot of EMI on the mic input, and a sound card fixed it

there is not really a point to buying such an expensive sound card, you only need it for audio input, you can still use your motherboard audio out because its perfectly fine

just buy a cheap xonar DG or DX to use as line in and that should fix the issue without having to spend hundreds of $

The Xonar Phoebus is pretty overkill for what I need, but I'm also very big on aesthetics. If it does what I want, I'll pay even more for something that'll look better. I spent $300 on the Maximus VI Formula for 2 main reasons. It was supposed to have better audio (not the case) and the motherboard shield. It doesn't do anything, but it sure does look nice.

Thanks for your help!
