GTX 980 Build for a Friend (I'm Back)

cj9jones

Some may have have seen my thread earlier about my stubborn friend who wants a 980 but could care less about anything else except to keep it under $1200. Anyways he's willing to go Intel so that nothing bottlenecks, and I'm pretty sure this build doesn't have any major issues. Things he doesn't care about: USB 3.0, overclocking, a flashy case or lights. Things he does care about: GTX 980, expansion potential. Thanks for helping!

Buying a 980 is plainly retarded , I would go either

- 290 sli

- 970 sli

- 295x2

For way more performance.

Tell your friend that,

What about Titan x?

Lose the mechanical for a 240gb ssd. I'd try to sell your friend into an SSD instead tell him he can just get a usb 3.0 external hdd that will be just as fast as that internal

Thanks for correcting me ^_^

But isn't anadtech not reliable? Or is that just me?

Well I think it is, and look at LTT's own 980 review at 9:30 :

To address some things:

PSU: I can't really find much that is a ton cheaper with the same reliability with the same wattage. I just wanted to be sure it would be reliable and leave plenty of wiggle room for expansion.

Storage: He has a lot more than 240 gb of stuff and he plans on upgrading to an SSD at some point, but his budget won't allow it at the moment.

GPU: He doesn't want to upgrade for a WHILE and he wants to SLI two at some point.

Thanks for everything guys!
