They're both good. Get the Gigabyte since I've never had issues from them. Can't vouch for MSI as I've never owned any of their products

MSI USA has terrible RMA support apparently >.>

Gigabyte has the worst UEFI and software suite in the industry...so if fan control is something you care about AVOID gigabyte boards at all cost.

The MSI one has somewhat beefier VRM heatsinks, so I would go with that one, especially if you're going to be overclocking. It also looks more aesthetically pleasing IMO.

what happened to your board?

onboard sound card fried

pins bent (covered by the warranty)

cant use speedfan because the fans dont read

bios resets every two restarts etc etc etc

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

typical issues with gigabyte boards...and you should not have to rely on speedfan to control your fans while all the other manufacturer provide excellent fan controls built in their UEFI and software suite...gigabyte motherboard department i believe is led by lunatic 8 years old.

i've owned many gigabyte boards over the years as well and evrytime i said to myself ''never again''

from now on as far as i'm concerned there will always only be asus and msi motherboards.

The MSI Z97 PC Mate has stability issues with overclocking as it's VRMs are not reliable past 1.3V Vcore. Not sure about the Gigabyte cause I've never used it but likely similar issues due to low-end VRMs

@ChrisTheHunt if you want to pair it with a 4690K and overclock, don't cheap out, spend the extra bit of money and get this G45 Gaming. http://www.amazon.com/MSI-DDR3-Motherboards-Z97-G45-GAMING/dp/B00K23BYCI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1426740831&sr=1-1&keywords=z97+g45+gaming
