Socket 2011-V3

Go to solution Solved by ELSknutson,

if its x99 then its 2011V3

but if its x79 or lower then no LGA 2011 will not work with LGA 2011V3 cpu's

No, the 2011-V3 socket is actually bigger than the typical 2011 socket

CPU: i5-4690k GPU: 280x Toxic PSU: Coolermaster V750 Motherboard: Z97X-SOC RAM: Ripjaws 1x8 1600mhz Case: Corsair 750D HDD: WD Blue 1TB

no its not, its actually exactly the same, with the same number of pins even, but the reason why they called it V3 is because its not backwards compatible with the older CPU architecture.

X79 is regular Socket LGA 2011, which is last generation's CPUs (4820K, 4930K, 4960X). X99 is only on Socket LGA 2011-V3 (5820K, 5930K, 5960X). So in short, yes. What won't work is a 4xxx LGA 2011 CPU in a X99 LGA 2011-V3 motherboard, and vice versa.

all 2011 coolers fit on 2011 v3 boards because its the same size socket and mounting

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure if you tried to put a -V3 CPU in a 2011 board, it wouldn't fit, right?

yeah it probably wouldnt, intel would prevent that so people dont ruin their components by putting incompatible parts together
