So  two or three days ago my mother called me to repair friends computer , since i had nothing better to do I went to see what was going on.

The original problem was the sound that was not working , I go there and i am faced with a 400 euros ASUS PREBUILT with a A4 3420 DUAL CORE cpu with a gpu that had 160 SHADER CORES , wut.

So i downloaded the audio drivers , rebooted , no sound.

I go to the audio service on the device manager , disabled.

HMM lets try to start it .

"Duplicate end point error"

I google it a bit and i see thats a antivirus issue , AVG quarantined important system registries , the same AVG bloatware that came bundled

with this horrid prebuilt.

So I used the registry from another windows 8.1 instalation , merged the audiosrv registry , rebooted ( the pc took 20 minutes to reboot!!!)

"Duplicate end point error"

Okay lets just go to control panel and try a restore point i think.

I try to open control panel and the window froze.

I told her the windows installation was completely screwed since i couldn't even open the god damned control panel.

Im gonna format it tomorrow.

Whats my point with this thread?

Prebuilts are cancer , but you already know that .

Anyways you might find my story interesting i guess lol.

AVG wouldn't do that without a reason, its not a POS like other antiviruses.

I'm guessing something infected those registry files and AVG quarantined it because of that.

You can use ccleaner to clean the registry, that might fix the issue.

AVG is no different from any other "free subscription" antivirus that comes bundled with a computer. Leave it for long enough without throwing money at it, and it'll start messing with stuff. Zappian is not the only one who's faced this problem, I had to clear a computer of both Norton and AVG at the same time, and it was a nightmare. And then, you've got an entire internet of people who have had to deal with it too.

They're all the same. Norton, McAfee, AVG, all of them. Their basic antivirus packages are absolute garbage. They are the Faces of Evil of bloatware.

Even if you did get a proper Antivirus subscription, these days they are super NOT for old or underpowered hardware like that computer's A4.

The way I would have gone about it is burning the computer at the stake as a witch. It's not even worth the effort of wiping the drive and installing Linux.

I have been using AVG free for over 6 years and it has never had an issue.

Maybe its because I have gone through the hundreds of settings and tweaked it for my preferences, or maybe its because I have it set to only scan when I tell it do, but it was worked great, and caught every virus I have accidentally downloaded.
