Hm, so that's why you've been off steam. Vacation?

Yup. We went from Michigan (home) to Kentucky (first night's stay after driving most of the first day), then down to Tennessee for two nights. We'll get home probably around 4 in the morning (and it's shortly after 11:30 PM right now.

  • 4 months later...

Okay so I tried playing a couple old games on Win 10 which didn't work at all. That means now I have a reason to keep working on this thing. Last time I touched it it had 98se on it and I plan on getting it running with Win2k. Yesterday it would turn on and spin the fans up, etc, but nothing on screen. After a bit of troubleshooting it just wouldn't do anything at all. I've reseated the 20 pin, tried a different gpu, moved the RAM around, tried a different CPU, etc. Next is to use a screwdriver on the pins to confirm that the power button isn't somehow the issue and then I'll get up and find another PSU.

So the PSU is giving me issues. Sometimes I can get it to turn on fine, sometimes it's no life. The only other PSU I could find to test it was a craptacular 300w that would require more dremelling of the case to fit so I'm gonna try and make this one work. In the meantime, pics:

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally got off my ass and made it work. Running a whopping 256MB of RAM. (Was 3something but the 64MB stick was flaky and it doesn't boot at all with even a single 512MB stick.) So it has the same amount of RAM as the 5900FX has VRAM. :|

Anyway, loaded up Win2kPro on it and it works great. So far I've only installed/played Sims 1 and RCT2. As far as I can tell it's not overclockable which is a bummer but oh well. I would be running an overclockable board with more RAM if that idiot seller didn't use grocery bags as packing material... Also the 5 inch floppy is decorational for now because modern PSU makers never anticipated that I might want to throw it into an old PC with a lot of molex connector-needing components and I couldn't find any splitters.
