Strictly open source or any free video editor will do?

If the latter maybe Lightworks?

*casually checks moviemaker*

I haven't used that since it came with XP, though it felt like turd back then

It's not terrible. Just a shame you can't have multiple audio tracks or picture overlay stuff..

What kind of open source video editors do you guys recommend? I'll only be using it for simple college stuff that won't need too many things in it

They only issue with open source, they are limited. But what are you trying to use these "open source" for?

Windows Movie Maker might just the right one for you.. (Best free one available, unless you're using a mac...)

I'm sure that you can get a trail for Adobe Premier Pro for like 30 days?

Blender is as powerful or even more than Premiere, but it's very difficult to configure and it's got a huge learning curve. If you're ready you won't regret it.

I might give it a try

I kinda asked the wrong question, so it's should just be free. I just checked out movie maker, I might give it a try alongside Blender to see which one is better.

And I am using a mac too, though I don't like having my laptop run anything other than youtube videos cause it'll heat up quite horribly

Yeah I use Blender some 3D stuff and I was surprised at first when I heard "Video Editing" in it. After trying it, It's definitely not the eaisiest but if you're just after some basic task it should be ok. There's no codecs or resolutions limitation there so it's just a matter of learning how to work with it.

I watched a small tutorial and I was ready to setup the panels, import my videos, add some audio and export it. Check it out !

Depends on what type of work you're doing, DaVinci Resolve Lite is a free version of an industry standard program.
