What cable do you use?

 

Also try to check your sound options in control panel.

Control Panel -> Hardware and sound -> Sound 

Find your monitor and set as default?

 

I think this only works with HDMI and maybe DVI too..

Okay thats good, i would go control panel and check the sound option. also unplug (if yoy have) any speakers or headsets plugged in.

Do you have headphones plugged in?

Downloading programs from CNet is not a good idea, as they will commonly include unwanted, and sometimes dangerous bloatware... The more you know.
