Hey guys.

I watch Linus's video on the GPU thermal paste and that it helped temperature to lower just a bit. So, i have a 3.5 year old laptop and i believe that in the past year or so that it runs hotter. I don't know for sure because the first time that i run a program to show my temperatures was a couple months ago and obviously i don't know how it was when a bought it. Laptop temps are always quite high and mine are about 85 on the cpu and 80 on the gpu which is actually quite good (for a laptop) but i still believe that is higher than before.

Has anyone replaced the thermal paste on their laptops and saw a difference in their temps?

P.S. Linus/Slick a video on this would be amazing!!! Keep up the good work. YOU ROCK...

If you are willing to take the risk (even though you shouldn't run into problems if you know what you're doing and doing it correctly), I'd say go for it.

Yeah, I've replaced thermal paste on some laptops, and did get a very slight drop in temperatures (and fan speeds). They weren't 3.5 years old, so you'll probably get a bigger improvement.

Laptops usually aren't really designed to be taken apart easily, so make sure to read some teardown guides for your specific laptop and be careful. While you're at it, make sure to clean dust off of the heatsinks/fans.

i'd suggest trying to clean the dust out of your laptop first, since while its not easy in a laptop, its still easier than replacing thermal paste.

i have had a few cases where 95°c idlers were declared "broken" and it just ended up being dust in the heatsinks.

mmmm.. First thanks to all for replying. Second i have already open it a few times (about every 6-9 months) to clean the dust of the heatsinks and the fan so it's fine in terms of dust build up. It's also quite easy to open which i have to say i did not expect at all... Just remove the screws on the bottom and... boom the bottom cover pops out. A friend of mine open his to clean it and it was a nightmare... I have a Samsung RF711 and he has an HP (don't remember model name  :D

i have both a samsung and a HP laptop, my samsung pretty much falls open on the tap of a screwdriver, while i actually never managed to get much further than the keyboard on my HP, just make sure the heatsink is absolutely clean. (dust will be on the side of the heatsink the fan is on, a place thats often overlooked)
