desktop speakers

Go to solution Solved by hawaiims,

assuming that is speaker wire on the back (glasses are hiding from me), I would end up buying an adapter for them.  How much do I really have to pay attention to the quality of the cable or just go for whatever is cheap on amazon?

current choice of cable

Dear god no don't do that.

Basically all good speakers you need an amp for. It's a lot more simple than you would think. Use wire cutters or scissors and simply remove the silicone coating on the cable after cutting it to your preferred length. Then just plug it into the appropriate colored connectors on both the speakers and the amp.

This speaker wire would be perfect for you:

Then all you need is a decent amp:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MUSE-M50-TPA3123-2x50w-T-AMP-MINI-Stereo-Amplifier-S-/250879380212

and a 3.5mm M to M cable to connect to your PC, cell phone etc...

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=3.5mm+male+to+male&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3A3.5mm+male+to+male

Trust me, it's a lot easier than it sounds and any non-powered speakers are always a better idea.

so finally deciding to get a good set of desktop speakers after much ear fatigue from constant headphone use (and using a jbl clip bluetooth speaker that was kicking around just doesn't do it)

$200 budget. I could stretch a bit over if its something special

small apartment so lack of "party speakers" isn't big deal.

desk is 5 feet long with dual 27 inch monitors so space is ample but not sure if the audioengine a5+ would fit

removable cables are basically required.  cables seem to die around here extremely quickly

subwoofer is meh.  I usually use my headphones for when I want a bass heavy stuff
bluetooth is nice, but not needed

I have em and love em. Not the best price/perf but they sound damn good and are pretty well balanced.

I don't recommend audioengine a5+ at all.

Teac LS-H265 is what I recommend for speakers under $200. They're on sale right now at the website below so check em out!

Edit: Do not recommend bose either. Terrible value.

Overpriced for the sound, but if you need something that small it's not like you have many options.

Not great, volume rocker is at the back for some reason with no remote control like the A5+.  You missed the Listens for 179 on Massdrop by a couple of weeks.

A2's are pretty small man.

I was asking whether or not they would be a better value for his money. Would the speakers I suggested be too large for the OP's application, you think?

My PC specifications are in my profile.

I just listened to a pair of A2+ today. They were streaming through a Sonos box, as well as running directly off a vinyl, and I also heard an unmixed master tape (Just the raw sound coming straight from the mic, essentially) I was really impressed with the sound, for the size at least. They are an absolutely tiny pair of speakers, and they are really quite amazing. In my opinion, they are well worth the asking price, given the size and performance. But I'm sure that some would disagree with me. It's my opinion, and I should say that I don't have a particularly broad experience with small desktop speakers. Also, if you're looking for a white pair of speakers, there really isn't much in the size/price/performance area that these are in. (My tower is white, so it's a consideration for me.)

Oh! Yeah, those would be good for OP, but not the dude who was asking about small speakers. :)
