Difficult Decision

Ok so I have a small dilemma, my friend wants me to build him an AMD based pc, even though iv'e told him countless times to just get an i3 like me and upgrade later, but that's not stopping him, and i'm wondering if getting the 7850k and Cf with maybe a 290x is a good idea?

You cannot crossfire a 7850k with a 290x and the 7850k would bottleneck a 290x.

That's a bad idea, you cannot even crossfire those and the 7850k will bottleneck the 290x quite significantly in many titles...

I think you can only do it with r7 240/250, not sure though.

If your friend is considering a 290x then he should get a better system than an AMD CPU...no offense but they are simply NOT competitive in the high end anymore...While I may be an AMD fan I can't deny that it makes more sense going intel at the moment

Agreed. As much as it pains me to buy an Intel CPU now as a long time AMD user, their CPUs are crap right now for gaming systems. Their moar corez and clockspeed or bust FX series has become what the Pentium 4 was almost 15 years ago: big numbers on the box, weak performance in your system.

I'd recommend a 270x to go with the 7850k. I would convince him to go Intel though.
