Dual 970s or 980?

I was wondering how well two 970s in SLI would stack up against a single 980 price and performance wise. if someone could clarify this for me i'd be grateful. :)

rule of thumb is to buy the best single GPU your money can buy.

If you're looking strictly at price-performance ratio then the 2x 970's will win, but there are some inherent problems with SLI like some games may not even support it and you end up with one card sitting there doing nothing. I think the single more powerful card is always the best choice overall when all things are considered :)

google 970 sli bench's, im sure you'll find lots of posts.
id personally take sli 970's (all 7GB of vram) because most games do use both cards now (atleast AAA titles, but you wouldnt buy a 970 for dota would you).

Two 970s any day...I am rocking that setup as well :) delivers up to 70-80% more performance over a single 980
