So I have a MSI R9 270x 4GB G card and today a friend bought me the same card but the 2GB version (NEW) I throw them in Crossfire (I know you lose 2GB) and run BF4 I’m only getting 50fps, 100 max if I look up at the sky (Like I’m not running crossfire and still on one card) and gpu usage on Afterburner reports 60-68% usage avg with spikes up to 90% at few times but not constant. I don't get it. I’ve also use an ASUS direct CUII R9 270x from another machine as a control, which works great!

System:

8350 @ 4.8GHz

16GB DDR3 1600MHz

ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0

250GB SSD Boot

128GB SSD Spare

4TB HDD Games

1TB HDD Extra

EVGA Supernova 750W Gold

What I have tried so far and what i got:

Fist time trying to do any benchmarking so forgive me for anything wrong

14.12 drivers (latest)

14.4 drives (old ones)

Set power limit to +20% after first try

All PCI-E Slot combinations (Also note both slots are full x16)

(All on ultra-settings)

-MSI 270x 4GB - FPS: 48 low, 55 avg, 90 max. avg usage: 91%, Temps: ~50C

-MSI 270x 2GB - FPS: 46 low, 56 avg, 87 max. avg usage: 91%, Temps: ~50C

-ASUS 270x 2GB - Same if not little more as MSI 4GB

-MSI 270x 4GB + MSI 270x 2GB (Crossfire) - FPS: 46 low, 59 avg, 91 max. avg usage: 62%, Temps: ~65-70C

-MSI 270x 4GB + ASUS 270x 2GB (Crossfire) - FPS: 75 low, 92 avg, 160 max. avg usage: 98%, Temps: ~65-70C

-MSI 270x 2GB + ASUS 270x 2GB (Crossfire) - FPS: 73 low, 97 avg, 180 max. avg usage: 97%, Temps: ~65-70C

(Crossfire Temps are higher because they were more things producing heat in the case, I opened the case to give better air flow but didn't help)

So i don't get it, can the card be bottlenecked somehow and can’t allow it to not use another 30% of itself, or is it a BIOS issue with the card?

Sorry for long post wanted all info at hand and any help appreciated!

Thanks

1. are you sure you have crossfire enabled?

2. bad optimisation?

Yes Checked every time i booted and what do you meant by optimised?

as in the game might not be made right check with other games

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

well yea but the ASUS + MSI 4GB worked fine and used 90%+ and also I played Crysis2 and got about ~60% amount of usage (MSI cards only)

so i don't know!

when i first set up crossfire on my rig i had to change pci-e slots to get better performance. i run a 270x in crossfire with a 7870 both asus dcuii. i started running them both in x16 slots and had to change the second card to x8.

let me try brb

BF4 Multiplayer is more CPU dependent, so your FX-8350 may be bottlenecking a bit. That said, my two HD 7970's gets a bit more GPU usage with my FX-8350...

I'd suggest that you give the latest, 14.12, Omega Drivers a go, and see if it shows any improvements.

BTW, BF4 on Ultra settings + 4x MSAA + High Anti-Aliasing Post + HABO Ambient Occlusion is going to kill your FPS -- especially with 2GB of VRAM.

Sorry 14.9 was a typo i meant 14.12 which i did use still no luck.

They why would it only bottelneck the MSI 270x 2gb and not the ASUS 2gb one, that's why im all confused?

I know that stuff will kill it but i did it anyway because i was originally trying to see improvements from 1 to 2 cards

im guessing the card was bad, and in the process it seems like it also caused a IRQ conflict and killed my onboard audio somehow

Install the drivers properly. I bet this fixes it.

Download "Display Driver Uninstaller" and follow the instructions to install the latest stable drivers. (14.12 I believe)

Other things you can try

-Ensure Crossfire is actually enabled in CCC.  Set the little icon thing to show when it is being used for now.

-Disable ULPS with afterburner and reboot.

-Make sure the cards are running at the same clock speeds manually with Afterburner.

-Try crossfiring the two ASUS 2 GB cards together *NOTE* If you change the card configuration, do a clean reinstall of the drivers each time before testing.

EDIT:

Just realized that the MSI card is the goofy one.  Misread your post originally.  Make sure the clock speeds are running what they should be and if not then it may be a bad card, but considering it worked by itself I very much doubt it.

It's not a CPU bottlenecking issue or VRAM related.  I ran 270x CF on almost an identical rig as you for awhile and BF4 worked great.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4HpnFBkAjlIX3ZCa2lVT2pUekU/view?usp=sharing

Min Framerate: 56.7 FPS

Average Framerate: 88 FPS

Maximum Framerate: 120 FPS (had it capped)

No it won't.  Ran just fine on my 270x CF rig.
