Not sure what the problem is,

I built this pc back on Jan. 1. it has an I7-4790k, 16gb ram, a gtx 980; and I have virus protection and malwarebytes, and I know my pc is clean. But for some reason I have lagging/freezing issues that goes on all the time when i use the internet. I use Firefox (I hate google chrome, so if someone says use that, no). but my browser freezes up on me a lot. like if i'm switching or opening/closing tabs it sometimes freezes (usually if i press f11 to go/exit fullscreen that fixes it. or if i wait a bit it fixes itself). Also if i download something through firefox when the save to page opens to select where it freezes for a few seconds there.

they way i make it sound, it sounds like firefox is the problem, but i dont think it would be. and even if it was, i hate chrome, and there's nothing worthwhile.

Other info for my pc i guess would be my OS being win7 ultimate.

when it freezes does your CPU usage or GPU usage or disk usage go to 100%?

and what drives do you have on your system?

when was the last time you did a clean install?

Well you just stopped me from giving some advice. I would tell you to use Chrome and see if you are getting the same problem, the freezing and whatnot and then use another browser like say Opera just to see if you get the same problem like in firefox but as you said you won't use chrome.

It could be a registry problem and or driver issue some how. Do you do regular system maintenance, meaning using something like CCleaner? If not try one of those types of programs as well, your system could need some tuning up.

That's not what it may be. It could only be that it has been a long time since he has cleared temporary internet files or internet cache or history related. If it has been 2, almost three months then it really needs a cleanup, and if he has then it may be a virus, and if it seems like that I have a whole post to paste here that I made on an older thread that will help him go through the steps to maybe (Hopefully) find out exactly what is causing this, and hopefully fix the issue.

Downloading programs from CNet is not a good idea, as they will commonly include unwanted, and sometimes dangerous bloatware... The more you know.

Hence the reason why i also put in the CCleaner to see if that helps..............................Sir!

I don't remember the last time i've done so. I think i cleared my cache about a month ago.

it doesn't last long enough to check the usages.

as for clean install, if you're talking about the last time i clean installed my os it was when i built this pc, and everything should be up to date.

one more problem i want to ask about, that doesn't really relate to the topic above.

For some reason my pc takes a long time to turn off (at least a good minute)

I have an SSD, and it starts up very fast (i'd say it gets to the sign in screen in like 10 seconds at most) but for some reason whenever i go to turn it off it's slow at it.

You might have malware or virus(es), so you want to install some anti-virus(es) Or it may just be a certain program causing some issues.

http://windows.micro...ntials-download

First, install this, run it, a full scan, see if it finds anything.

https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Then use that, to see if that finds anything.

Before you install those, uninstall everything else, all the cleaning programs, uninstall, them, even CCLeaner.

Once you have run Malwarebytes and MSE, then you can get CCleaner again.

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Download it from there, the official CCleaner website. Chose the pro version trial so that it will download from the piriform website rather than the filehippo website they host the free version download on.

Then you need to select everything in the Applications Tab of CCLeaner

And then in the windows tab, select everything, so it looks like this:

203e434a4e69dc4b691cab4dc0596e1f.png

Once you've done that, you run the cleaner twice. Just to make sure you get everything.

Then you want to go into the registry tab:

5c923fe1ac22b01de62c599c4b472c0d.png

Then you want to hit "Scan For Issues..." Once it has finished scanning, click "Fix selected issues..." (Make sure you select ALL the issues) It will then prompt you to save the registry entries, SAY YES, it will default and save to your "My Documents" area of your HDD, so just save it. Then fix ALL of the issues, and then repeat the from Scan for issues again until it doesn't find anything, and then reboot your computer and see if there is a difference.

Hope this helps!  :)

Also, if there is as slow shutdown that could mean that there are some hanging programs that it takes a long time for the OS to stop before shutting down. It tries to stop them but it just takes a while, if doing what I said to do above does not work then I can go in depth with you and see if there are any "abnormal" programs installed or running that could cause this issue.

I took this from one of my old posts, a link to that post can be found here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/312201-refresh-windows-without-losing-programs/?p=4243467
