Second hand 980

iTonyy

Planning to buy a second hand Asus 980 for $450 tomorrow but I'm still a bit unsure since it doesn't come with any warranty

Wanted to get you guy's opinion on the price considering its without warranty.

I'm currently running a 670 so it'd be a hell of an upgrade if everything works out well

As far as I know the Asus warranty on GPU's will transfer even if it's second hand.

Think about why someone is selling a used 980 a few months after it has been released, then think about why it costs 3/4 of the original price.

I know Asus's warranty is transferable but my seller said he "got it as a gift" and therefore don't have a receipt for it.

From what I could see all Asus gpu rma's require the original receipt as it's dealt with though the original retailer

Well consider the likely hood of being gifted a 980.Is it really worth the risk for $450?

Would you guys do it for the price?

iirc Linus's 980 classified went for ~$575 usd on garage sale while this is $450 cad

Although both without warranty, I guess you could say Linus is a more reliable source but beyond a DOA/fake the odds are practically the same

This.

It would have pegged my interest to know why he's getting rid of it..

Whether it doesn't overclock as much as the user wanted, or if its actually broken in some way....

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I'll be Honest I buy a lot of second hand Components and this is what I would do first. Test the Graphics card before buying it run a some games in his system. run a couple of benchmarks. test it test it test it ! if you think it's pretty stable no damages whatsoever then sure why not. if you can try to make the price lower that 'd be great. your only problem would only be the warranty. so tell him about how important warranty is and maybe he would make the price lower.
