Never heard of RUSCOMP, might have been gone before I started. But as far as attachments, managers are cool as long as we get 10% of the computer price as attachments, but that's retail. I understand that part. Prebuilts don't make much money, the manufacturing price is pretty close to the retail price we sell for (one of the ASUS computers we sell is only $35 more than I could build it for using the identical parts OEM), so I can certainly see having to make more money on the sale from an upper management perspective.

Overall, I love working for Staples, but the largest reasons I like it are my fellow employees (I work with an amazing crew, and my direct supervisor is one of my closest friends), and the customers you get to meet. Some of them just have very amazing or interesting stories and lives, and that positivity is exactly what I need in a college-induced-stress life.

Sorry, What is ruscomp?

Oh yeah my coworkers were AMAZING. RUSCOMP was the system we used to put laptop/computer sales through. It was the warranty system basically. I hated using it during Boxing Day with those iPad mini sales. I guess maybe it's only a system used in Toronto? I trained at a different location than where I worked at so I know it wasn't just store specific. Overall Staples was a pretty good place to work in. I just sorta hated being constantly reminded to sell those Staples Easycare.

@Uwillparish if you wanna work at Staples, get ready to do your morning DPD walks and zero balance, if you're scheduled in the morning. (I know I'm complaining a lot, and maybe it's because Staples was my first job, but those were also annoying.. :P). As with any sales, it might be also understaffed. During the day, it was only myself and this other senior guy on the floor in technology. We're in downtown Toronto, so during lunch time we get all those office workers on their lunch break shopping. It gets pretty hectic to handle both phone calls, and every customer wanting your attention.

Zero balance lists are only done by our Inventory Analyst for our district, basically the supervisor of the Office Supplies department. That's how it is for all the stores in our district. Not sure if Canadian Staples stores have different protocols from US stores :P  Good news though, EasyCare is gone by the wayside, now we have SquareTrade as our warranty service, who is actually a very respectable company :P I do hate offering the plans on ever. damn. item. though, if it costs $5, why do we need to offer a $5 plan...? Also, we have a new system for computer sales, which was likely programmed by baboons considering how buggy it is.. Luckily we only use it for work orders, not regular sales.

Lol yeah for us, basically AS400 never was advanced enough to search for item names. So when a customer called in asking if a certain item was in stock, we would have to go through the staples website and get the SKU number, then input that into AS400 to find out the stock level. Unfortunately every computer terminal went through a sort of remote desktop software. It was super slow and buggy, and non-responsive. Sometimes after waiting for 3 mins for the RDP to refresh the staples page, I would give up and just use data on my phone to search lol.

I do that all the time. The network is set up horribly. Every store in the US routes to Maryland, which is just absolutely terrible. You need information now? Let it go through half a thousand hops to get there first. Then wait again so the information you need can get back to you.
