Hey,

I am planning the next step of my workstation, and my goal is to have 3 monitors (most likely 1080p) and to have them work on my desktop (HD6950) or my Laptop (gtx860m) just with one cable.

My proposed idea is:

laptop/desktop (miniDP) > EVGA displayport hub > 3x Monitors.

Unfortunately, displayport monitors are too expensive for me, so im just going to get some DVI monitors. So its gonna look like this:

laptop/desktop > miniDP to DP cable > EVGA displayport hub > 3x PASSIVE DP to DVI cable > 3x monitor

IS it possible for the evga hub to run 3 passive dp to dvi cables or is active needed?

Thanks

No, that is not possible. DisplayPort multistream only works over straight DisplayPort connections.

does this mean that the only way to use MST is if im am using DP the whole way from gpu to monitors?

If you do get DisplayPort monitor, you can get some that can be daisy chained. I know it is not helpful now, but once you have the budget, it will save you the DisplayPort hub cost as you wont' need it.

Just something to look into. Example of such monitor: Dell U2414H
