x99 970 or z97 980

x99 isn't worth it for gaming at all. definitely go with the z97 and then decide if paying a huge premium for the 980 is worth it over the 970. personally i don't think it is, but that is up to you to decide

Hello, Since I am not made of money I have a question, Z97 msi 980, or X99 970? I know that x99 will be the "thing" to have because of all the cool new stuffs, and I want the 5820k, but if I chose that I can only afford the highest clocked 970, the Zotac amp extreme core edition. But if i decide to go with the z97, then I could have an msi 980 (because I like msi). What should I do? I want bragging rights of a 980 and the performance of one, but I also want an X99 board because of the look of the one that I want and it having all the cool new stuffs. Thanks!

If your gaming, then z97 is more than enough, even for 4k.

If your working on professional or semi professional content creation, then x99.

**EDIT** Myself having always been leaning towards content creation I would steer for the x99 970 combo, but that's only because as I've said, i work extensively in content creation... xD

about 10-20% depending on the game. at 1080 and 1440p the 970 is more than capable of delivering over 60 fps

4k gaming is not possible at high settings on a single card. just keep that in mind. 4k low @ 30-40 fps is possible sometimes on medium but 4k @ 60 fps needs multiple gpus.

I agree with "incarnate", The price/proformance  ratio from a 970 to 980 is not worth it. However saying that it depends on a few things your side, Money and you want to have the best hardware going. Generally I find people will bucket loads of money allways go for the better proformance card no matter the price. People will less money allways go for the proformance based on the price
