So, a week after America and the FCC voted FOR Net Neutrality, it seams that EU is going backwards and taking Americas stance before Net Neutrality.

That's right, The EU is considering on letting ISPs offer internet with options for better internet with "Fast Lanes" or paid prioritization.

A proposal put forward by Latvia would reportedly allow telecoms companies to "enter into agreements" with companies and individuals to provide faster internet speeds — so long as these deals do not impair other users' connections.

They agree the Neutrality is important, but now on how to classify special services on tip. I'm sorry, What? The Definition of Net Neutrality is everything is treated the same, it doesn't matter if they are classed as "special", Neutrality is still Neutrality.

Telecom Operators welcomed this option, (no surprise) claiming,

Only a "light-touch" approach to net neutrality would allow the growth of the EU's "Digital Single Market" — the plan to unify Europe's digital industry with shared laws for digital matters such as online payments and mobile data

Liberal Politicians condemn these proposals claiming

drafts that are circulating clearly demonstrate that Members States are more interested in defending the interests of their national telecom operators than creating real competition. Finally, some politicians speaking sense.

It must be noted these are Leaked plans, first the 28 member states will have to vote on it before it even reaches the EU Parliament, hopefully if it makes it there it will be blocked, if not, God help the EU.

My Thoughts?

What. The. Actual. F**k? You mean to tell me that the EU is actually considering this? The fact that this is even being contemplated is absurd. Paid Prioritization should just die, because that is what is going to happen if the EU allows Net Neutrality to be broken.

My internet is Ok, I have no need for a fast lane service, yet, Becasuse I already have the best connection available from BT, in my area. If they bring out a "Fast lane" option and still expect me to pay full price for my connection, they can sod off.

I just hope that the people of the EU can preserve or ask for Net Neutrality much like the US did, with their voices, and stand up to governments.

If the normal internet speeds are not changed than its probably fine, but paid premium lanes are kind of dumb in any case. Just make everything the "fast" speed and then no one can complain.

Thats the african way of doing things.. Here the Govenment own the ONLY internet provider in the country. We still have capped internet here. We are unable to game on any other servers in the world cause our Ping is stupdily high.

the Only connections you can buy here are 2mb lines, 4mb 8mb and 10mb. You get above that but its super expensive. and its all throttled.

to get a unthrottled 4mb line costs a fortune. REally hope the EU gets its together. This greedy way of thinking isn't doing the world any good.
