I just put together a new rig with an MSI z87 gd65 gaming and a 4670k. I set it up on a test bench and made sure the board posted with the stock cooler. I didn't take a look at the temps. Next, I put everything in my case (600t) and installed an h100i. Haven't even gotten windows installed yet, with everything in the bios set on default, the CPU is idling at 48-50 degrees. Is that normal? The pump is plugged in, and my fans are running at whatever speed the h100i runs them at by default. I'm used to seeing alot lower temps at idle from my Sandy bridge System. Is this normal? The TIM is the stock corsair goop. I have a tube of Arctic silver 5, that I was going to use, once I make sure it's stable, and start tinkering with clock speeds.

What's your ambient temperatures?

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

Seems a little high, but with all this talk going around about intel not using solder and using too much tim in the cpu, you may have to de lid or return the chip, because you may have got a bad one.

what are your ambient temps?

The Corsair TIM is pretty high quality so unless there is an air bubble out it didn't mount correctly I dont think its that

This. I forgot all about what AraSarkisyan said.

The ambient temp is like 80f. The "System temp" is 32c. I will try the Arctic silver, but I had a feeling I would have to delid this thing. Im gonna get windows installed, and see what the load temps are, if it gets high, even with the Arctic silver, im gonna rma. If I get another hot runner from the rma, I will delid it

Dont screw up the die if you delid. 80F is kind of high.

I know how to delid without screwing it up. It would be nice if Intel would stop screwing around trying to be cheap, id pay another 50 bucks for the same CPU if it was good out of the box. I got windows installed. Im about to check my load temps.

your bios may run the cpu at different frequencies and voltages, thus making the temp reading seem strange.

DONT PANIC

INSTALL WINDOWS

I guarantee when you are in the OS environment, things will normalize. as long as the cpu frequency is set to adaptive and the cpu voltage is set to adaptive.

USE the intel extreme tuning utility to monitor VITALS and to stress test your Haswell CPU

only a rookie would suggest deliding or ask about delidding.

Deliding is NOT in your BEST interest!

I have the same problem with my gd65 and 4670k, the bios is wrong. It says my temps are 45-55 in the bios but in aida64 they never go over 40C... dont sweat it. that is with an overclock btw.

The bios runs your chip at max freq. and volts so its almost load temps not idle. in windows u will have like 30-33

Like others have stated. Temperatures in the BIOS are usually higher(sometimes by quiet a bit) than in windows.

32C is much more reasonable with your setup.

I suggest that you DO NOT delid because you will void your CPUs warranty. Yes there might be a temperature drop, but I do not think that it is worth the risk involved unless you are going to be benching with this computer.

Also, be careful with Arctic Silver 5 it is conductive so if any falls on your motherboard, it can short out components. I recommend using MX-4 or TIM Consultants Quantum. Both are better than AS5 and non conductive. I personally use TIM Consultants Quantum because it is one of the top rated TIMs and it is also one of the cheapest. You can order it direct from them: http://www.tim-consultants.com/matrix2.html

I get multiple syringes at a time because the shipping stay the same.

Run P95 or Intel Burn Test and see how hot the CPU gets. With that cooler you should be able to overclock a bit.

I have a 4670k overclocked atm to 4.4 with a Carsair H100i cooling it, at idle its at low 30's oC a playing games like Rift its in the mid 40's to low 50's (52 max), playing a game like Tomb Raider which using more gpu and cpu power its in the mid 55's to low 60's with the gpu about 5 degrees higher .

My temps are at overclock when it was idle its was about 5 oC lower, it depends how you set-up your fan's you can connect your case fan's to the Carsair h100i and let the Carsair link 2 software to control your fan's, then you just need to set up when the fan's start to ramp up at what ever temps you set it at.

Cry Havoc!
