Hi all,

Just got dying light and i noticed that my framerate is really bad. Checked my cpu and gpu usage and both are only hovering at 50% with some fluxuations into the 70's. Settings are at highest apart from view distance which is at the lowest. Tried turning my settings down as far as they would go with little to no improvement. Wondering could this be a ram issue?

Specs:

AMD FX 8350 @4ghz

MSI GTX 970

3x2gb dell ram (quite old)

AMD have no drivers for dying light, Could be a cause of the issue. It also delivers very choppy frame rates to everyone and I guess they can patch it later on down the line :(

Also there is the whole argument about your CPU being a bottleneck, All im going to do is link this thread and you should read the green answer fully, all im asking...

Check the cpu usage per core if possible. Windows should have a tool called resource monitor you can find in task manager. 50% could mean 4 cores at 100% and 4 idle or 8 cores at 50% load.

I'd also check the RAM usage.

The settings I run it on is anti aliasing off, depth of field off, ambient occlusion off, and view distance 3-4 clicks away from minimum. Holds 60fps on a 690 (680 sli).

Also motion blur off.

8350 is complete garbage when it comes to this game. I had one. You're just going to have to deal with it.

Specs:

Intel i7-4790K @ 4.7 GHz cooled by Corsair H80i | ASUS Maximus VII Formula |  G.Skill 8 GB (2 x 4GB) 2133 | EVGA 980 Superclocked (Fry) | 128GB Samsung 840 Pro OS Drive | WD Black HDD | 500GB Samsung 850 EVO | Corsair Vengeance K70 | Logitech G502 Proteus Core

No idea what you're referring to with the drivers. No CPU gets driver updates.

The game runs like crap on my 780TI as well, so don't feel bad. It's just how it is.

I did have A LOT of success using the Dying Light Manager

It's a launcher that will help you customize the game settings. Also make sure you have the 1.4 update.  Before this update, my vram would fill up and then the game would crash. It wasn't managing the memory very well. The update helped alot, plus with the manager I don't have nearly as many issues. I still get random crashes every so often though.

turn off all the NVIDIA specific settings in the options and set the view distance to the lowest value, that will gain you like 50fps instantly without actually impacting view distance very much at all.

i was able to max the game out at 1440p using a gtx 770, i could even play at 4k on medium settings. i got around 100fps on 1080p maxed out.

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

GPU drivers for the game, I then go further onto saying "also there is the whole argument..."

He's using a GTX 970.

Dying Light manager has been taken down for some reason. I was also having issues with this game. I'm running an i5 4460 & R9 290. I would max it out at 25-30 FPS and would get choppy as hell. I changed out the cooling on my card and performance increased dramatically, now getting easily 60 FPS. Not saying you are having a heating issue, but may want to check your temps. I confess, I don't know much about the 970, but I would think it would run it just fine. So it's probably, if anything, your CPU.

Here ya go, no clue why it was taken down, but here's the latest version compatible with version 1.4 of dying light

My mate had a AMD X6 overclocked paired with a GTX 970, having low FPS and huge drops... He invited me around just to show me the issues...

Didn't help much... constantly sweeping drops around 40fps from 75fps with even more split GPU usage,...He ended up moving platforms, and now is happy as hell he did so.

The FPS drops he had are all gone. Enabling full 99-100% performance from both of his cards.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Thank you for all the replies, i will go through and try the suggested fixes. Just to address people saying its my processor: Youre probably right, however my cpu usuage never hits 100% or even 70% and changing platforms it not an option. I tried changing my ram out for a 1x4gb stick of hyperx blu but that made my framerate half.
