100M:1 vs 20M:1

riixupvp

Hello! So today I'm looking for a nice 27 inch IPS monitor (1080), and I've found one for around $250(USD), with 100M:1 contrast ratio(http://www.amazon.com/Acer-H276HL-bmid-27-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00G5AH2YG/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1425277800&sr=1-5&keywords=27+inch+ips), , but this monitor doesn't have a vesa mount option, another one I found does for around $220(USD) but the contrast ratio is 20M:1 (http://www.amazon.com/AOC-i2721vh-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00K15LQZW/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1425277697&sr=1-2&keywords=27+inch+ips+vesa) My question is, is 100M:1 a difference I can notice and care about or is it more of a marketing ploy?

Ignore contrast ratios as there is no standardized method of measuring them -- meaning they're all bullshit. The same goes for response times.

Ignore the million:1 contrast ratio figures that you see, they're quite exaggerated and are not the real contrast ratio of the display and are known as the dynamic contrast ratio. What you want it look at is the static contrast ratio which is usually around 1000:1.

Dynamic contrast ratios like those are made-up numbers, just ignore them.

Thank you all, VERY much. very nice community. My last question is, is the http://www.amazon.com/AOC-i2721vh-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00K15LQZW/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1425277697&sr=1-2&keywords=27+inch+ips+vesa

a good 27 inch IPS Vesa monitor? Seeing as it's 220 with a vesa mount it seems pretty reasonable..

They sure are. I wish manufacturers would just do away with them. *sigh*

I think AOC are a decent company, just make sure there's a decent return policy in place so you can return it if you're unsatisfied with it. :)
