I know there is tons and tons about the 970 vram issue, the 3.5 vs 4gb, and I understand it. I had a faulty 970 that I sent back from EVGA (fans were defected and loud like a 7970), anyway a week after I sent it back I learned of the issue, and decided to wait until there was a fix. But I haven't heard anything from nvidia talking about a hardware/manufacturing fix to where the 970 gets an actual 4gb of memory. Does anyone here know if/when it will be fixed? Or is it just going to be 3.5 forever.

EDIT: Just to make this crystal clear, this is asking about a hardware fix, not a software.

EDIT:Also, just watched the WAN show and Nvidia released a statement talking about how they can't fix it because they did something with being able to add the extra gig, I won't go too far into it  but yeah, I guess they can't. Oh well.

It won't be fixed. Period. It's not a problem for 1080p, and rarely is for 1440p. At 4k it becomes a concern, but even the 980 struggles, so there's that....

I understand it isn't a software issue, and the card is fine yes! It's great!.... For now, but in a year or so when the extra vram starts to matter more and more.. That becomes the issue.

But we don't know if it'll be an issue. Games may become more efficient. Anyway, an extra 0.5GB VRAM won't make a TON of difference

It's not an issue that I'm thinking of switching off the 970 before, I was just wondering if there was a fix date before I got a replacement.

I'll barely ever reach 3.5GB with a 1440p display, and It IS 4GB.

It's not an issue that I'm torn over amd vs nvidia about, I'm just wondering before I get a replacement 970 if there was a hardware fix coming out. The 970 is still a great card.

its not an issue i wish people would stop calling it that, it was designed that way and the issue is with the advertisement not the GPU. i have been running my 970 with 3 screens gaming going over the 3.5GB of vram and didn't even notice it
