Excuse my ignorance, but what does that mean?

It basically means I hope it continues to work. It's an old superstition for good luck.

Examples:

I have been stress testing for 24 hours and have not BSOD'd, knock on wood (I hope to continue stress testing without a BSOD).

I have not lost a single game today, knock on wood (I hope I can continue my winning streak).

my main rig has a 1TB in it, but my all my downloads and mass storage is on my HTPC, which has a 90GB SSD and a 3TB HGST NAS hard drive.

I have it set up so my downloads get downloaded to my second hdd then pushed to the NAS drive

Add less than 100GB if you can, this rig is running an 85MB boot drive and 420MB storage drive. (I'm done with HDD made after 1995-every single one has failed after only a few years use, unlike these old ones).

Add less than 100GB if you can.

That's what the option '500GB or Less' is for. :)

That's a massive gap though....., about 1/1000th.

Yeah, well, that was probably a good idea. There are just some things you don't admit to on a public forum. Aren't we trying to prevent this kind of thing from happening?

I do have a friend's 2TB Seagate External HDD installed that I haven't actually used for ages with nothing on it, but for the largest HDD that I actually use, it is an old Hitachi 466GB.

I'm guessing you mean that it's a 500GB HDD with a formatted capacity of 466GB, correct?

No, but you can buy a 500GB HDD which is 465.6 GiB. Windows just reports the actual space which is 466GiB (rounded up) as 466GB.

The highest capacity hdd i have in my pc is 2tb wd black WD2001fass (the failure rates of 3tb+ is whats keeping me from upgrading to larger sized hdd's internally) , externally largest capacity hdd i got is 4 tb, (HGST Deskstar NAS)

I have been keeping my eye on those 3tb wd blacks ,if they ever drop in price  then i might bite the bullet and replace pretty much every 1tb drive i have internally with them (3x samsung spinpoint f3 , all of them are past the 4 year mark)
