Cpu temp inaccuracy

Go to solution Solved by SiGaG,

Still having trouble with it. Cpu is thermal throttling at idle. I put my a10 6700 back in and have had no problems. I'm just gonna return the Cpu and go back to my a10 for now i suppose.

Hello friends! So I'm preparing to slightly OC my athlon 860k. I have a decent CPU cooler (the be quiet pure rock 3) but Hw monitor, Coretemp, speedfan, and my bios all have different temp readings.

HW monitor shows my idle at 57C

Coretemp and Speedfan say 12C

And my bios says 31C

Not really sure whats going on here. Anyone have experience with bad readings?

It is possible that they're all reading different sensors. I'd follow what the BIOS says, though.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

@SiGaG

I'd say that the most likely is the BIOS... 12°C is a bit too low, and if you put the thermal paste correctly it shouldn't idle at 60°C

BIOS temps are always correct unless the sensors have some sort of issue

not sure i just downloaded it about 10 min ago so i would assume an updated version.

RC7 isn't strictly speaking "public"(It will tell you what version you have when the program is open)

Am I allowed to share a link to a file here?(Anyone who knows)

I am on RC6. I also am gonna re-apply my thermal compound. I was using very cheap grease.

I don't know if I'm allowed to link to a file or not....but if you want to try RC7 to see if that fixes the readout issue: If you search google for "Core Temp RC7" - you will find an overclock.net forum posting as the top result with the file link there. Also, if you are using an MSI board, they have the "MSI Command Center" program which you can view within the OS, that uses the same info as BIOS does for accurate readouts. Other boards might have similar programs that will read the temps at the BIOS level, I'm just not as familiar with them.

RC means Release Candidate. It implies it's close to public release but not quite there. Well, most programs use RC like that.
