GTX970 Performance

Have seen good benchmarks but no direct comparison, should I replace my two HD7970s with a GTX970, considering I generally have my second 7970 disabled with this be an improvement?

dual 7970 are faster than a single 970... It will be an improvement in power consumption and heatoutput but considering that you're not even using both your cards as it is why would you even wanna upgrade to a more powerful car to begin with?

...if you only use one card, yes, it will be an improvement, but I don't think the difference is worth spending 350$ on. Especially when you could just turn on your second card and get much better performance (2 7970s will pulverize a 970).

I'd say keep your dual 7970 setup just for that power boost when needed.

sell your 7970s and get a 970 for that money, probably need to add 50gbp +-

Only using one card as most of the games I play either have problems with Crossfire, or I can't be bothered with the immense noise it makes.

thats a good reason to sell your amd gpus and get a Gtx 970. they're power efficient and low noise.

Has CFX been fixed for the 7970 series?

A GTX 970 is a pretty significant upgrade from an HD 7970 if you're only running one of them.
