My friend is getting new gpu today

Specs: i5 4690k, asus mb with only crossfire supp.

8gb ram. Cx600 psu

should he go for r9 290(x?) or gtx 970

Hes using my old gtx 660 and wants to upgrade bc gta v and bf4

I'd get the 970, but otherwise get a 290X.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

GTX 970 should do the trick, plus it has 3 displayports for better multi display options.

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

290x because proper 4gb's of vram and better bang for your buck.

 

Noise and heat is barely an issue these days.

If it's just 1080p gaming, which it looks like to me when I look at the specs of this machine, I'd say go with a GTX970 and call it a day.

Everybody is advising gpus like that, what resolution will your friend be playing?

he already bought 970, it was really hard decision because both are good cards but eventually where we live there wasn't much of a choice with r9 290x, only asus coolers with bad cooling fro that chip.,
