Did I get DOSed

Hey guys,

I think I got dosed, but I want to make sure so that I can contact my ISP and the police tomorrow. I am unable to connect to the internet from my smart tv and my wifi name has changed to dlink (and I can't access it) (i have a d link dir 600 router) from the previous name that was set. I don't have a PC atm so I can't do much except contacting the cops and my isp. Even though I build expensive PCs I never got into networking so I really need your help to find out if its DOSing or not.

Just noticed the build in your signature... Unless you wanna bottleneck the shit out of that GTX 980 dont get the FX CPU please!

Are you sure that there wasn't any power outage that changed your router settings to defaults? If the SSID changed to dlink, there's a pretty good chance that the admin and network password reset, so you should be able to connect to the network and set it up from the router's webGUI.

Reboot router and terminal point. Dynamic ip should change. If persist, your pc is bug with ip tracker as well. Call isp and inform them. Let it run while they refer you to the engineer and make a case action report. Or your isp got hacked/bug. That's when they roll out firmware updates unknowingly.

I think that it is very unlikely that you have been DDOS'd. 

 

Even if you had been this is not a symptom that you would experience from a DDOS.

 

I think that you should do a factory rest on the router/modem and then try to connect with the default password and set it up again.

That CPU won't bottleneck 980, it is strange choice with that expensive graphics but it won't bottleneck it.

It depends on what resolution he plays on. 

If he plays on 1440p or 4k the amd vs intel cpu performance matters less and less.

Sounds to me like your router went back to factory settings and that's the reason why you're unable to connect to the internet, don't bother the police with this because they won't help you anyways.

@AleksaNS Yes, I had an argument with him on FB and a friend warned me that his dad can dos me, but I didn't listen to him knowing that if he does it I'll be back

@flexin1981 I do not have a working PC atm so I can't connect to the router but i could build one with spare parts if it is really needed.

@Speedbird I wasn't home so I don't know but I had power surges in the past and nothing happened to the router.

Rule of thumb if someone says he is going to ddos you 90% of the time it is an empty threat.

I think if you call the police about it they will ask you what it is, and then you'll spend the rest of the afternoon explaining them how a pc is connected to the internet through a router.

It sounds like a router being weird because he feels like it (joking aside I've had these things happen if you do a hard reset on the router it should be fine.)

People be looking for a reason to flame.

You are overreacting. I think your router got reset, a good chance would be that the ISP did that for some reason, upgrading firmware or pushing a new configuration. Call them and ask for directions on setting it up to what you had before.

If your smart TV is connected over WiFi then it's pretty clear why you can't access the internet. Only way for you to access the router is by an ethernet connection, for which you either need a PC or you can use your TV, just connect it over ethernet, not WiFi.

 

Still, there's very little reason for you in particular to get attacked. Unless the IP of the potential target was at the time assigned to you. And even then, the chances are the attack would be filtered before it reaches you.
