So by the title you can tell my birthday is coming soon (less than 2 weeks away) and i have saved enough money to finally get my PC. I am coming from a laptop so i only need to buy keyboard (have 2 old monitors that will do) peripheral wise. i have a windows 8 key already too. My main query with this is if i need 250GB of SSD storage because i'm down to save $60 if its recommended. if there are any more alterations i should make please do tell me. i don't want to go over $1800AUD so forget any upgrades, mainly swaps. if any more information is needed ask away. tyvm :)

The SSD will only improve load times of Windows, games and heavy applications. It won't affect game performance. If you don't play much online shooters, you can skip the SSD.

Also the Gigabyte Windforce 290X is $460. Performs as well as the 970 and is cheaper.

No. I live with a HDD. It's terribly slow in all applications.

just looking at some temperature testing on the 290X would it be worth investing in some additional case fans? was thinking 1 or 2 of these https://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-fan-co9050009ww

i wont get these straight away but its an option down the track

I don't think that would be a good idea. The WD Green has a lower RPM and operating speed than the WD Blue.

And with RAID 0, if one physical drive stops or fails, the other won't be able to continue running. You could lose all your data to one failure because the information is striped.

oh ok cool. would i be able to put it in without raid and just use it as a 3rd storage drive for random things like movies. does the RPM effect a movies ability to play normally?

cheers (:

Playback of movies and music do not require enough read speed to be hampered by a 5400rpm drive. However you will probably notice longer wait times if you try to skip huge chunks of video, due to slower seek speed.

thanks heaps :D

think i have decided my build guys. thanks to everyone that helped
