Ever Put a Component on Carpet?+

It's fine; the reason you can't build on carpet is because YOU get static which builds up then gives a large shock to the graphics card. If the graphics card is getting the static then it will accumulate slowly and cause no harm.

That's just a guess though; I don't know much about this stuff.

I used my carpet as a test bench for my PC.

Carpet can create static electricity. It in itself is not some sort of third-rail or anything. Discharge yourself and pick up the card. You'd be fine.

Imagine picking it up nervously, shakily with sweaty hands..

Yeah, many, especially whole systems, since my whole house is carpet. Wouldn't want freezing floors winter mornings. :D

Wait so you mean I shouldn't be doing a test boot on carpet to make sure everything works?

Seriously though I don't see how carpet can screw up anything when it's off other than maybe some of it getting stuck to the components.

Wouldn't putting the fan facing down be problematic?

Not unless you put your PC on a desk, like me.
