Windforce fans dead - replacement help?

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

any suggestions for a fairly cheap one around 100$?

You could probably pick up something like a 280x or something like that on craigslist or ebay.

I was wondering if anyone here has had experience in replacing gpu fans.

It looks like i'd be comfortable putting on a kraken g10 onto this card without problems, but that looks like it would cost me at least 45 bucks minimum. even with a ghetto solution.

So, if i could replace the fans for 10-20 bucks that would be ideal...but i don't know how to go about obtaining/replacing these fans. Any help would be appreciated even if you just tell me its a lost cause.

Contact Gigabyte, if the card is still under warranty they will most likely do something about it.

I wouldnt replace them as i dont think you can buy replacement fans.

I would do one of the following.

1. Watercool

2.RMA

Its a rather old card that's only worth around 60$ on the bay just for extra info

so, way out of warranty

In that case i would try to replace it but be prepared for the worst. If it that old i would reccomend getting a new one.

The Windforce cooler tends to be very friendly with having 120mm fans strapped to it.

I somehow acquired another windforce 6950 today...so I can use that one, however I have some thermal pads on the way, as well as some mx-2 since I wanted a non conductive thermal paste, how would one go about attaching said fans?... also if i'm using a 700W psu would i be okay cross firing these?

If my calcs are right max crossfire would draw would be 589W, not sure how close I should get my psu isn't 80+ to my knowledge.

The 6950 and 280x cannot be cf'ed.

It should be pretty easy to attach the fans using zipties.

A decent 700w would be enough for a 6950 cf.

I had a Gigabyte GTX 570 Windforce that I was able to take a few screws out of the front metal casing of the card and kinda loosened it without completely taking it apart to get to the fans. I then took out the dead fan and looked up the fan's part number and was able to find a replacement on eBay for around 10 bucks.
